Our time in Cambodia was very fruitful and by God's grace we were able to achieve our goals. At the same time, our team was able to learn much more about the current state of affairs according to key leaders. Reverend Heng Cheng, a gracious man who survived the Pol Pot years, leads the Evangelical Fellowship of Cambodia which includes about 85% of the nations churches, gave us valuable insight. A few things of note are; Cambodia is not poor, there are lots of resources within the country, so many of the church leaders have lost their calling of shepherding the sheep in order to follow after money coming from the west and church leadership needs much capacity building.
In light of this and other advice, one of our key areas of focus will be to "build capacity of church leadership and promote unity".
Psalm 133
The organizations that we will be working with to build capacity and promote unity are;
1) Timothy's All Project which mentors the 24 top lead pastors of the country.
2) Evangelical Fellowship of Cambodia (EFC) Youth Commission which provides programs to raise up a new generation of Christian leadership.
3) Big Brothers and Big Sisters which is a branch of the EFC which empowers middle class Christian youth to be big brothers and sisters to orphans and urban poor children.
The other 2 areas we will be focusing on are
- to support the plight of people at risk through the Chab Dai Coalition and Hagar and
- to encourage marketplace believers through Hagar and the Diamond Project. More info to follow...
